Mon brings to one's mind, pictures of chiefs, tattooed faces of Konyaks and muzzle-loading guns, which the ingenious Konyaks manufacture. It is 357 kilometres from Kohima via Dimapur and 280 kilometres from Dimapur, 275 kilometres from Kohima via Mokokchung, Tamlu and Watching. Mon headquarters, home of the Konyaks, was established at Chen and Mon villages land : being centrally located for the coronation of Anghs (Chiefs). Here, one sees the feathered headgears and traditional dresses. Konyaks are adept artisans and skilled craftsmen. Here you find excellent woodcarvings, daos, guns, gunpowder, headbrushes, headgears, necklaces made by these artisans and craftsmen. It is an exciting experience to pay a visit to Angh's house at Chui, Mon, Shangnyu, Sheangha, Chinyu, Watching and Japoka. Konyaks are ruled by hereditary chiefs known as Anghs and the institutions of Anghship is only prevalent among the Konyaks - Aoling monyu is observed during the first week of April (1-3) and is a spectacle worth a watch. Mon District headquarters looks like a rural-urban town with admixture of palm leaves bamboo walled house and pucca houses. People with tattooed faces and blackened teeth come to sell their village produce in Mon town, which includes betel nut and an assortment of vegetables and handicrafts and makes an interesting sight to behold.
